Are you ready for Pancake Day with a difference?
#WEAREWOKING will be hosting the annual pancake day race, in partnership with local charity Woking ShopMobility.
Woking ShopMobility is a hire scheme for people with mobility impairments, which is conveniently located in Woking town centre on level 1 of The Peacocks Shopping Centre. It also has its own 16 space free car park for the sole use of its clients. Every year they host a charity Pancake Race, to raise money for the organisation who provide support and services for members of Woking community.
This year’s event will take place in Jubilee Square at 12 pm on Tuesday 25th February and everyone is invited to get their steady hands at the ready! If you’re feeling adventurous, there’s an optional fancy dress theme of ‘holidays’ for those who wish to flip in style!
So, join #WEAREWOKING this Pancake Tuesday to raise money for this fantastic community charity.
Did you Know?
Shove Tuesday is commonly known as Pancake Day. The word shrove is a form of the English word shrive, which means to obtain absolution for one's sins by way of Confession and doing penance. Thus Shrove Tuesday gets its name from the custom for Christians to be "shriven" before the start of Lent.
But why Pancakes?
Pancakes are associated with the day preceding Lent because they were a way to use up rich foods such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent.
